They cut the ignition to 2 cylinders after about 5000 revs, I've found it very difficult to notice when revving it in neutral before (still revs freely and as high as you'd want), it's not as pronounced as you'd think - certainly no stutters or flames!
I'd be more inclined to think it's blocked carbs or an air leak.
