Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Cheers dudes, I have the 150's still, crap i'll have to rip the damn carbs out again and put in the 150's... ffs lol what a mission.
Anyway, problem with the HRC mod fuel tap is I don't understand the drawing very well in the jap manual,I'm looking at one online now that seems pretty good. Question though... Or can I just get a 1/2 turn 1/4 inch tap from a hardware store and run it in line? Make sure I turn it off when I'm not using it? What you think?

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Just did the HRC mod and the thing even when off leaks like a motherfucker... not happy. Did everything as per...
http://www.akhara.com/nc30/fueltapmod/index.html
Thinking the 150s surely must be too rich? I'm kinda tempted to try around the 30's, such a massive increase in fuel flow from tiny hole sizes it all... I trust your experience but. I have the 115's in there so i'll go for a blat at the dyno and change them back to 150. I've ordered some 130 and 132.5 sized jets and some 147.5 size to go with my 150's. So there's a massive jump there if need be.
Basically I'll have to tune them to my finished tyga airbox style when I finish it shortly.
Blaahhh soo much work.
Still unhappy about the tap situo, and theres not enough room to fit in a 1/4 turn tap, not sure what to do about it yet...

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Woooo wait a sec... 150 is in the keihin size right? Way different to mikuni size, looks like I bought some mikuni jets here.... damn... they did fit ok... Fascinating.
If I'm correct my new 115 size mikuni jets are equivelent to 130 size in the keihin anyway...
So when you guys say 150 sized jets your talkin keihin right???
Where do you boy purchase your carb jets from? Everything i generally find is mikuni online. Some fucker at the local bike shop wanted to charge me 10 dollars a jet, I told him to subsequently blow me. I'll keep looking but.
Cheers.

Show & Go in Adelaide is the official Oz keihin distributor they have all parts listed on their website and do an efficient mail order service: http://www.showandgo.com.au/
Just ask for the 99101-393 series jets in whatever sizes you need. $10 a jet is about the going rate.

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Cheers cammo, again you are a champion of carb knowledge. I did find a bloke on ebay for 4 bucks a jet
I had a gander at their website and they have some really interesting information about carbs in general.
I don't know what to make of the guy who sold me these mikuni jets, i asked for ones to fit and RVF 400 and he said he said "No problem" and sent me mikuni's. Ah well, not the end of the world. He said he'll refund me.
So, after a short blat I pulled the plugs and they were wet and black as, boggy section from 6k to 10k... however above 10 if i dropped the clutch the front came up no worries at all.
I think I should take out 1 shim and move the circlip up 1 notch (total 1mm drop). I think it should lean out the midrange and be about right with the 150's. Mind you the top end didn't feel too bad with the 115mikuni (130ish keihin.)

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
They probably won't be genuine keihin. No big deal but it's best to stick with the one brand as they all flow slightly different amounts, which can make fine tuning the fuelling more difficult than it needs to be.doodleface wrote:I did find a bloke on ebay for 4 bucks a jet

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Ok no worries, will order some tomorrow. I will only need 2x 147.5.
So now: I've got the needles now set on middle circlip and a 0.5mm washer. (-1mm) I also did this as the last dyno showed it to be rich as hell. Wet as hell sparks too...
So we are good to go by the looks of things. Fingers crossed.
By chance can you buy a little O2 sensor like the ones on dyno's or ones you can hook into a laptop?

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Looking at buying something like this to shove down the end of my exhuast with an 02 sensor and 12v supply.
I'm not the most mechanically minded person technically speaking will air/fuel mixtures really change all that much under load?
Otherwise i could stick it to my tank and blat up and down the street a few times?

Re: Installing HRC carb kit
Update, selling one of my old track bikes tomorrow to fund some new kit! Yeooww! (That is an ignition unit from rick-o of course.)
So for now I've adjusted my needles, 150 jets back in, very close replica to hrc airbox now (opened up to 100x75) with aluminium flared edges and nice big curved flap facing down. Eagerly waiting tomorrow mornings blat up the street... I'll grab a pic of this lid.
Rossco (autosparky friend) will be making me some kind of O2 sensor thing just for a bit of fun and a trial, probably wont be all that good without load but an experiement is always fun.
Off to the dyno if I get a nice solid run, and I'll check my plugs too after going up n down the street a few times.
Yeehaw.
