Re: rattling noise during low speeds.
I agree with all the above .
Know your limits aswell , I'm happy doing most things but I hate and don't like doing things like bleeding brakes ect ect , lucky for me my dad is a mechanic and he will help and teach me how to do most things .
If your unsure read the Haynes a couple of times untill it sinks in and makes sense , if it doesnt then take it to a garage or ask for advice on here and listen to what people say .

Haven't read any of the above posts, and fuck me Mo, you can't half tell you're in the house with the kids
Do you have the heat shield still fitted? If so, it might be that.

Here is my 2 pence. 'Strange Rattle' - Rattle, noise, metal on metal, hollow, chunky.xivlia wrote: when i ride my bike. and going from 0-20mph there is a strange rattling noise coming from the front of the bike. it doesnt do this when i speed up past 20, and it also doesnt do this when idling on neutral. ONLY does it going at low speeds, and on every gear... tried all gears on low speeds. and still makes the rattling noise.
so what could this problem be?
This aside. You say you only hear it when the bike is moving and at low speeds, I suggest it is there at high speed as well, however there is a point at which the speed of the engine + engine noise and wind noise overcomes the 'problem' noise.
The fact that the bike has to move for the noise to occur says to me that it is transmission noise/ gear / gear chain orientated.
As for what is causing it, here is a couple wild assed guesses that you may wish to rule out.
1. Your chain and sprockets are fked and the noise you are hearing is the fckd chain on the fckd front sprocket, but the noise goes above 20mph simply because you cannot hear it.
2. More sinister - Your output shaft bearing is breaking down, due to the bike being run with the chain far too tight over the years, with a fat bastard on the bike.
Get the bike on a paddock stand with the engine off and spin the wheel you should be able to tell by doing this if the chain is knackared. Also loosen the rear wheel to get ample slack in the chain and check the output shaft for free play or any sort of oil weep.
If it is either of these then it needs sorting pronto

Re: rattling noise during low speeds.
If it is in the front end my money is on steering head bearing or something down on the axle...like the bearings or a braking component. Either way, I wouldn't ride it until I figured it out....

Re: rattling noise during low speeds.
okay. i can assure you that the noise goes away after a certain speed.. and no it is not getting disguised due to other noises ie, louder engine and wind.. it genuinely doesnt make a noise after a certain speed... the front exhausts are not blowing as they were recently fitted on properly by the mechanic. ive noticed today that, it makes licking rattling... as if the chain is grinding/hitting onto something.. and it does it alot more when going at slow speed and using the clutch... sometimes i let go of the clutch fast and it makes the noise.. sometimes i twist the throttle quickly. and then it makes the noise again.... it does sound like a chain rattling.... maybe its too slack? last time i checked it, it was fine imo.

Buy a Haynes mate and do all the necessary checks at the front of it.
