At the time I compared the "double bearing" and single bearing side by side. As heat is a problem in Thailand that swung the decision towards the single bearing.Neosophist wrote: The 6908RS's from Honda are 12mm joined with a plastic clip. I see you just used a single 24mm bearing. Any theories or knowledge on why Honda used two bearings instead of one?
Since then I've been following a thread over on http://www.mvagustauk.net/forum/forum.php regarding earlier F4's with under-engineered rear hubs.
It seems to me that, assuming safety is the over-riding priority (rather than weight, for example), safety would influence the choice of bearing. As it is the NC30 hub is well engineered - there's no "flex" in the hub when the swing-arm hub bolt is tightened, which is part of the problem with the MV Agusta design. Hence the probability of a catastrophic bearing failure is remote given reasonable inspection and maintenance, and no "jet washing".
Of course I could be wrong, and two bearings side by side might be safer than one. But I doubt it, especially in hot or race conditions where lower temps should contribute to lower wear and greater longevity. I'd be interested to hear anyone else's view.
