If anyone is wondering why I know about this:
http://diversionclub.proboards.com/inde ... 510&page=1

89 CB-1 changed original brakes for Brembos off a Cagiva Planet.
97 XJ600S 14mm>1/2" from a Revere as the original fitment was plain wrong and too big, no modulation.
96 CBR900 upgrade OE calipers to Tokico from GSXR750K2, and tried both 14mm and 5/8" masters, settled on correct larger m/c.
98 955i changed front 14mm>5/8" from a ZXR750 as the original was too small and just not right, gave a squidgy / vague lever.
98 955i changed rear 14mm>1/2" from a ZXR400L as the original was too big and could get no modulation at all - just on/off.
89 CB-1 changed original brakes for wheel and dual discs off nc29, forks off 96 CBR900, calipers off 01 CBR900 and 5/8" master cylinder off an NS400R!

So yeh, I have played about with this stuff a bit and reckon I know what is what.

What diameter is the original Triarm master cylinder, just for comparision?

"The fireblade master cylinder (92-97) was 14mm, which is bigger than the original 1/2", and so is not correctly suited to your calipers. If you really rode back-to-back, you would easily spot that by upping the m/c size, you have made the lever harder and less responsive. Or, given it more bite and removed squidginess, depending on your POV"
It's the first time I rode the bike since October but it honestly felt (if anything) slightly better than the standard one. Certainly enough bite and feel to get past more modern stuff on the brakes
I take your point though and in theory it should be the case, maybe on the road with less agressive braking it would show up more but as it's a race bike I'll never know......
