Engine Oil leaking

I thought that the output seal could only be swapped with the cases in half??

ah. i only changed the seal at the gear lever because oil was dripping from there... no idea whats that called. looks like this isnt going to be an easy fix...

Really need to see pics. Output shaft seal can only be changed with cases split. Sorry.

You have three oilseals on this side of the motor.
gearshaft oilseal,clutch pushrod oilseal,and gearbox output-shaft oilseal,
I also think that there is an o-ring behind the sprocket spacer.
All of these seals can be removed and replaced wiyhout splitting the motor.
just remove the sprocket cover to get at them.

Just had a look at an engine on my workbench, and you have to split the engine to change the output shaft oil seal as it has a lip that fits into a groove that would be damaged if the casing's are together.
Also the original post says that the oil is coming from behind the frame, as as far as i can tell this must mean it is leaking from the top of the engine rather than the gearbox area?
Best get us some pics so we have an idea of how much oil, and were it is

Listen mate, here is what I know about the Nc30 left hand side oil leaks.

I've had 6 NC30's and ridden many more. The only place I've ever seen an oil leak is on the left hand side. I've seen the same one 3 times. They all come from an O ring seal on the water pump. If this seal becomes defect... instead of the oil then mixing into the water, it will flow into a small cavity underneath with a drain hole. If you look carefully the oil is seeping out of that gap. It is hard to see at first because the oil will spread to other parts of the left hand side. Give the area a decent clean, warm it up thoroughly and watch for the spot.

It is a very cheap part and Honda (in New Zealand anyway) still have many left.

Haynes manual covers the replacement of the gasket (it is a simple job) and will explain to you more clearly about this gasket and the leak. Look in the water pump section and it will mention this common (but not that bad) leak.

I'm fairly sure this will be your leak. Let us know how you get on.

My mech suggested that he could grind a gasket to fit and apply silicone around it to stop the leak if its the output shaft seal... What do you guys think? He's charging me 150 sgd.. If I open my engine up, the cost would probably be tripled...

I've narrowed down the problem to either the output shaft seal, waterpump or oil filter... Does anyone have pictures to point out which parts are where? So that I can have a rough idea of where my problem is before I get ripped off by my mech..
