Yeah don't copper grease those sliders, the copper grease will make the rubber boot swell up over time (if it isn't wrecked already) this then lets water / dust in and as the copper grease drys out the lot siezes solid.
Slider grease is yellow / orange.
Red Rubber Grease should be used for pistons and seals.
I've got a guide about building the calipers but its down at the moment, i'll reply later with some info...
As for rear brake.
90 - 100% of braking power is available from the front brakes.
Rear brake is good for bleeding off a bit of speed if your too hot in a corner, when filtering traffic to keep the bike suspension compressed and when at a traffic light to stop roll back.
Oh and it wouldn't hurt to use it in an emergency stop situation too.
The NC24 rear brake is usually pretty good (compared to the NC30 one anyway! which is rubbish!!)

Re: Rear Brake Pads Issue
It would be good if you can post the guide about building the calipers..
There are two spring plates which can be tricky to get into position.
I'll have to split the caliper again to fit the new pads i'll maybe remove the copper grease and use lub grease instead.
What are EBC Brake pads like? I see they are reasonably cheap on ebay

Re: Rear Brake Pads Issue
The copper grease should be used between the pistons and the pads to prevent siezure and easy removal after years of abuse, I should have stated this on my original post sorry.
