The whole motor is unpainted alloy.
It was my buddys VFR. When he had it,he took a test ride on his mates low mileage RVF and proceeded to wreck the water pump when the chain came off.
Sale had been agreed to a 3rd party when the shit hit the fan,so a swift motor swap was carried out with the agreement of the buyer for a reduced price.
The water pump was repaired,the motor was freshened up with new rings and valves.
The CDI is riveted together with 2 plugs.
It's VFR electrics for sure.

I really wouldn't worry about it, the RVF is probably better gearing for the road (lower 1st), slightly lighter internals and the VFR is/was more powerful so you're not likely to be losing any advantage other than missing out on the minor extra midrange (but minor lack of top end) you'd get with a full RVF setup.

I want the best setup available.

Rvf engine, vfr gearbox and nc30 carbs is probably the best combination for track speed and top end horsepower.

I wouldn't worry too much about the cdi mismatch to the rvf engine, get an ignitech adjustable cdi and it'll be a good un!! 8-)

You keep on about Full potential. What were saying is that if it doesn't already have the the pickups already it wont' run at all. Unless its an NC30 engine :P If you change the loom you can use the NC35 CDI but you'll need the rev counter. You may as well just get a programmable ignition if you want 'full potential' :)

I thought my posts were clear.
It's a race bike with an RVF motor and VFR carbs.
The RVF motor works with the VFR loom because the VFR pickups are installed? Correct?
Are you saying that I have the RVF pickup already?
Thr RVF motor has different cams,compression,intakes to the VFR.
To the best of my knowlege, because of the different engine config,the ignition map for the VFR will work,
but won't be matched to the RVF motor.
I have the ideal package apart from the fact that I have an NC35 engine that thinks it's an NC30.
I need a loom to connect the correct CDI,pickup and rev meter to?
I was under the inpression that it would only run if the VFR pickups were installed with the VFR loom?
It's not a road bike,it's a pure race bike, I couldn't give 2 hoots about the road setup.

If you have a VFR CDI then you must have the VFR pickups installed too.

You cannto fit the RVF CDI to it and plug'n'play. You need to stop worrying about it so much - if you are concerned, then buy an ignitech programmable CDI and get that setup properly.

The engines aren't that much different IMO and you'd be better fitting an NC30 gearbox to it if you were extremely serious.
