Clutch change on my cbr400 was easy! A good tip is to lock the rear wheel up with a piece of wood over the swing arm - make sure it's wrapped up well in several layers of rag (this also stops the bike creeping forward and sliding off the side stand - happened to me once!). This makes breaking the retaining bolt a simple process. Also if you tilt the front wheel up onto a house brick (whilst on centre stand) you can remove the clutch cover without loosing much (or any) oil. I tend to use the old oil as after 600miles you have to change it out again with a new filter as the clutch beds in which causes clutch fibre particles to pollute the oil (which will increase engine wear - not a good thing!)
If you remove the complete basket you can get it on a table and replace all plates like for like - although if it's been owned by a possible bodger in the past I'd recommend getting a manual, you should be able to find one online, if not PM me and I'll see if can hunt one down.
