nc29 clutch help

Post by cormac83 » Wed Apr 01, 2009 6:41 pm

Hey been working on the bike for the last few weeks - had real problems with trying to get it to start, due to alarm imobliser that was fitted (meta) i removed this and with some persuasion and a lot of fiddling i got it to start on the button. :D
Now when trying to put it into first gear the bike just cuts out.
Clutch is held in and when selecting first there is a clunk, the rear wheel moves a bit then the engine dies.
Initally i thought it could be to do with the alarm removal that i did - checked all the wires i disconnected - resolidered and still happening.
Then checked the sidestand, light comes on when its down and goes off when up, i assume this is ok as its all connected.
The bike was fine before and could engage and move in first.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Hi Cormac,

It does sound like its the sidestand switch/cutout. Have you tried bypassing the switch by disconnecting the wires going to it and then connecting them together. there is also the diode that does alsorts of weirdness when its broken. does the bike turn over in gear with the clutch leaver pulled in?
Too many bikes, so little time!

sounds to me like your clutch plates are sticking easiest way to fix is remove them and give them a good soak in oil my old zx9 used to do this regular if not rode for 3 or 4 weeks you can keep droppin the clutch with a bit of revs untill it free's up it usually happens when the bike is'nt used for a bit and the clutch plates have gone dry

side stand switch. its a safety mechanism to stop you riding off with the side stand down, the second you hit the gear with clutch in or out, it kills the engine.

now.. i think you have missed a wire after removing the alarm, OR you have re-connected a wire wrong.
BUT at least you can limit what to look at as it IS the side stand switch related wiring.
