Charging problems...

Post by regcheeseman » Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:17 pm

Sorry to post what has probably been asked more than once, but I couldn't even find the search function - did a manual search but didn't find an answer....

My battery is brand new (but struggles to turn the bike over) and my lights dim when I rev off idle - seem fine whilst idling. Is this normal?

Also can I measure the battery voltage at a more convenient place than the battery? whoever thought of removing the rear bodywork to access battery  guess they knew you'd also need access to the regulator anyway!

hello-

when it comes to testing for problems such as this then taking off the seat unit to access the battery is not really an issue.

sounds like the battery is not getting charged so first check is to test the charge rate at the battery with the bike running @5000rpm.also note down what the voltage is without the bike running.

the readings should be between 13.5-15volts,in your case the voltage will not rise and will gradually start to drop ever so slightly.

if this happens then it is more than likely the regulator/rectifier to be faulty.
