bottom yoke change

Post by georgenc30 » Thu Dec 03, 2020 9:41 pm

Can anyone tell if it is possible to press out the steering stem on the bottom yoke of the nc30 please.
I bought another front end but the steering stem is to long so i need to change it.

Yes it is. I think that can be done on most bikes. But it takes a lot of force and if you don't have the correct tools you'll need to find someone who does. I would check out your local bike mechanics or ask at a bike shop. If they can't do it they may know someone that can.

Georgenc30, they are welded to the bottom yoke, so on first place that welding should be removed.
I have a nc35 (was also welded) with a different stem (alu), so it was changed at some point.

It's definitely doable, as I have swapped my nc23's front end to a set of early fireblade setup (the stanchions 3cm shorter than stock though, so that's another issue...). I believe a quick tidy to remove the welds, throw it in an oven for a bit, then into a hydraulic press.

Just one more comment, make sure your top yoke matches the bottom one yeah :)
