OK I have replaced the above with new tapered bearings
searching threads I have followed the advice below but not sure of the top steering nut torque settings - is it 140 nm as per the book

I'll say it again, DO NOT TORQUE TAPER HEAD RACE BEARINGS! Just nip them up to take out the play, any kind of torque will crush them. The torque settings in the manual are for OE ball race bearings.

As stated bud,dont torque tapered bearings,take the play out of them,tighten until the steering is smooth then lock the adjusting nut with top nut...

Yes I have done all that. It’s the top but I’m not sure about. Do you torque that to 140 nb

23 to 25nm is enough.

Just tight enough to lock it off but not turn the adjuster,then use lock washer tabs to lock both...
