NC30 - Minimum amount of disassembly to remove pistons

Post by lukemillar » Mon Jun 06, 2016 10:58 pm

Hey all,

Need to remove my NC30 pistons with the minimum amount of disassembly. So far I have (engine on bench already)

Removed heads
Remove sump and oil pump
Remove water pump
Removed stator + rotor

I figure I can leave the clutch in place. Is there anything else I am missing? Man, I wish these engines had removable barrels...

Thanks
Luke

It's been a good while since I done one, but I'm 99 percent you'll need to get to the point where the crankcase halves can be split. IIRC, the Haynes manual lists about a dozen parts that need to come off before splitting them, the clutch is definitely included on the list.

Edit - according to Haynes...

Oil Cooler
Valve Covers
Camshafts
Camshaft Drive Gear Assys
Cylinder Heads
Pulse Generator Assy
Starter Clutch and Primary Drive
Clutch
Water Pump
Gearchange Mech externals
Oil Sump
Oil Pump
Alternator Rotor and Stator
Starter Motor

Thanks for the reply... I have a Haynes but was trying to avoid removing everything it listed to just remove the Pistons. I did it today at lunch and posted an updated list of what can stay. However, it turns out that some heavy metal from my balanced crank has come loose and made a bit of a mess. Luckily it looks salvageable with just a new piston needed.
