Bog down
Hello all
I've just done all the clearances and sync carbs after full service apart from oil.
Pulling away it near on dies then excellaration is bad and i can't get more then 80mph out of it.
I've done the rejet and opened up the holes in diaphragm to 2.5mm as in the stickies on here.
It seems it's struggling for either air or fuel.
I'm wondering if I've pinched the hose under the tank. The breather coming off the top of the tank.
Would that cause my problems??

Re: Bog down
My choke was on, I can't seem to make it retract as it should when shutting it off
The cable just comes out at the lever
I've oil the cable up which now slides perfectly but still it's not shuting the choke off at the carbs

Re: Bog down
Your choke obviously isn't operating properly.
Get the carbs off and test the linkages by hand, if they're stiff then have fun sorting them out. Get the carbs apart and get some lube in there.
If that fails then I don't know, but I had to scrap a set of carbs because the choke system was fecked.

Re: Bog down
Check that you have the choke cable routed correctly, ie. not pinched or trapped, and that the top end outer sheath is secure or it won't work properly
Also with the cable disconnected at the top end, check that the choke actuator arm moves freely from left to right and if necessary clean/lubricate all the linkages at the four carbs - Ideally you will have checked all this when the carbs were off as there is no access once they are fitted to the bike.
Let us know how you get on, cheers

My other ride is another 400, Woohoo!... Doh

Re: Bog down
The choke is entirely mechnical, the cable pulls an arm that is connected via a series of linkages to pull all 4 separate chokes at once.Jay1200 wrote:I have a reply

If its not turning off something is either seized up or bent or there is something interfereing with the choke levers.
Smart ass replies don't help you espeically when you provide no pictures, no backstory and just ask somebody why your choke is broken. Did it all work ok before you messed with it?
Take the airbox and tank off and have whre the cable attaches to at the arm, then look how that connects to all the levers and see if somethign is trapped or bent.
Take the cable off the choke and pull the lever by hand, does it pull the chokes out and return ok? If so then your problem is with the cable, if not its in the carbs.
Since you did cleanreaces and what not did you remove the carbs? You might have bent or trapped somethign when putting them back on.
All of this is basic diagnostic stuff

Re: Bog down
I was genuinely did celebrate because I got a reply
The cable come out of the lever when switching back to off
I took the slack off the cable and it's OK for now
The linkage etc looks ok and the bike now runs ok some I'm going leave it as is until it happens again
Time to enjoy the sun while its here
