chain slack

Post by timvfr » Sun Jan 31, 2016 4:01 pm

hi guys

today i decided to check my chain slack as when i bought the bike a couple of months back i noticed that when i keep the bike in low rpm on the higher gears the chain was touching the swinging arm. today i have checked the slack of the chain and it is very strange.

at the tightest point the slack is about 15mm while at the point where it is most loose its about 40mm. is this a common thing and what is the best approach for it.

regards

tim

Tight spot in a chain link gives inconsistent adjustment if you fully loosen the chain you should be able to locate the tight link as a temporary fix sometimes it can freed up by working it up and down but replacement is the best option .

uneven wear or stretch is quite common

when a chain is this far gone best advice is to replace it

And if you are replacing the chain, you might as well get new sprockets. I would bet yours are worn out too. Plus it's a good idea to change the chain and sprockets as a set.
