NC35 Racebike Starter Switch Playing Silly-Buggers

Hello fellow V4 enthusiasts,

I'm having an issue with my NC35 racbike. It's currently running a total-loss charging system where I recharge the lithium battery after each race. Last month racing at Phillip Island the charging cable inline 3amp fuse blew, thankfully I only had one more race to go and the battery has enough grunt to handle a few races before needing recharging.

Once I got it home I pulled the wiring harness off and checked all the cables looking for any breaks, etc, but found nothing. Once I reattached everything I found that the starter switch (right hand control with RUN, STOP and the starter button) wasn't operating correctly. The engine would turn over regardless of the switch position, either RUN or STOP, it wanted to fire up when I pushed the start button.

I've replaced the starter switch (not even sure if that's the correct name for it?), checked all related fuses and inspected all the wires without any luck. Do any more knowledgable people have any ideas what else could be the problem?

Race bike? I assume it doesn't have the ignition key anymore, and the loom has been converted to a race loom?

If so, it sounds to me like the loom is wired incorrectly, and is bypassing the cutoff switch in the starter circuit. Does it run in the STOP position or just turn over?

Thanks for the reply vfrman. Yep, the loom has been stripped down to its bare bones and the ignition key removed, but it has been like this for 2-3yrs without an issue so it's definitely been wired correctly (as correctly as possible by someone who is 'limited' when it comes to electrics).

I'm assuming there's a short somewhere within the loom, looks like I need to get my mate who knows how to use a multimeter to come over for a few beers (that'll be the ruse anyway!!).

I haven't tried to run the engine yet, I need to reassemble a few other things beforehand. Will do it this weekend to see what happens.

And you replaced the right switch pod with the cutoff switch and starter button? And it does this still?

Mine used to do this, depends on how your loom is wired.
Remember in a standard loom if you turn your key but have the kill off the starter still turns but bike won't run.

With the ignition switch bypassed, the STOP/RUN switch only controls power to the ignition circuits and the START button will activate the starter motor anytime it is pressed, irrespective of the position of the RUN/STOP switch.

From your desription the STOP/RUN and START switche functions, all the circuits are operating correctly.

Thanks for all your replies, you were all pretty much correct in saying that the engine will turn over but not start if the STOP/RUN switch is on STOP. I'm not sure why it was any different, probably because I never touch it, the switch is always on RUN. Now I can stop being paranoid that I'm having electrical issues
