Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone knows of some common faults regarding a non starting NC30 91, its a friends bike and she cant get it started. She fitted new battery today, checked fuse's but it wont turn over. Whats next on the list to check.
She tried starting it on Wednesday but it wouldn't turn over so I told her to leave it on charge overnight. She started it Thursday and took it for a twenty minute ride came home and tried starting again and it would not turn over again.
Any ideas???????????

Re: NC30 not starting
Sounds like the Voltage Regulator. If it just stops starting all the sudden and the battery was charged, I always test the regulator rectifier next. Replace it with an aftermarket one if it's faulty and it should last quite a bit longer than an original. Check the connector block for melting as well. That might need replacing which is a bit more work. Might as well upgrade to a Yamaha unit or Mosfet type from Rick Oliver if that's the case as those are much better quality. Multiple threads on here cover the modification.
Just make sure to charge the battery again before trying to start with the new Regulator.

Thanks for that. Going round to my friends now to see what I can do. Great day for a ride here in Innsbruck so fingers crossed we can sort the problem out.

Re: NC30 not starting
Hi again.
Done what I can checking connection and fuses, looked at the rectifier and there is no burn marks around the connections. Because I cant start it cant do the rick oliver checks.
Electrics are not my strong point, but I'm thinking starter solenoid or the starter itself, is it possible to bypass the solenoid by laying a screwdriver over the two terminals on the top of the solenoid, or will I damage something by doing that. I know that might sound like a stupid question but like I said electrics are not my cup of tea????????

Re: NC30 not starting
Ran a lead direct from the battery to the starter and it turned over so pretty sure its the solenoid. Thanks for you help and advice guys.

richyrd5,
why not start the bike by bridging the styarter solenoid?
