Installing camshafts NC30 question

Hey guys, just replaced my head gasket and putting the camshafts back together.

For some reason i can't get the bottom left and top right bolts to catch onto the thread.

Do i have the camshafts mixed up?

This is the rear head btw

Are you using the service manual as a guide?

Check it and recheck - are all thr dowels in? You should not really get them in the wrong ways...

Cant see anything from that picture in regards to the actual camshafts themselves.

The factory service book is in the downloads section.. Refer to that otherwise you risk ruining the camshafts, ive never seen it but heard stories of people snapping the camshafts trying to brute force them on.

If its all ligned up propery then it goes together easy, the camshafts are marked in ex btw.

Check the threads on the bolts and in the head for damage.
Are all the other bolts tight?
If so, loosen them a turn and try again.

Personally I'd remove the fittings and check those two bolts in their holes.

Thanks guys, I'm using a Haynes manual BTW. DocV400, it seems like you are saying that all the other bolts should be torqued down before the two bolts in question will catch on?
All bolts atm are fingertight

Sure you haven't got the longer ones mixed up with the shorter ones? I don't think they are much longer so its easily done.

Throw the haynes in the bin and use the factory manual its much better.

thanks everyone, i fixed it...

I took the whole camshaft off and inspected the two holes which the bolts wouldnt catch on. When i had the head off the camshaft rocker arm or whatever rotated which blocked the thread hole. weird!

Glad you sorted it.
What I was getting at was that if you did all the other bolts up tight, and the caps were slightly out of line, then you would most likely have trouble starting those last two.
However, I would have thought there'd be dowels in the head, to align the caps to it, there usually is with parts like this . . .

Yep,The rocker shafts have a radius mechined in the side,
When these bolts are fitted they actually lock the shaft to prevent it rotating.
