Thanks for the help so far, I have a dowload of the service manual which includes a wiring diagram - I think. I am more mechanical / not a fan of wires bur I will give it a crack and let you know what I find. I have H4 bulbs but no low beam relay

Maggs, do you have a wiring diagram please - there is one in the service manual but its not a very clear copy, dont go to effort on it but the rest of your pics have been high quality so I'm trying my luck. If not I will come right with the service manual - thanks

Wow... appy mistake there  I got the wires mixed up when testing the current to the bulb plugs this morning   . So it seems I have low beams (which are way brighter than I expected low beams to be) but now it seems my actual problem is that the high beams are not working even though the relay is clicking... Had a look at the service manual and it seems I need to test power into and out of the relay to see if it is fried (maybe I am going to find something ridiculously simple like a wire is loose on the relay?).... I did mention I dont like electricity ... would be great if you could actually see the stuff.

If low beam is functioning correctly and you can hear the high beam relay operate then either power to the relay has been lost or the relay could simple be faulty.

The high beam relay is located on the right hand side mid way along the frame. The red/black wire to the relay is 12 volts dc from the battery and the blue wire is the output from the relay to the headlights.

Problem fixed - I opened the fairing to get to the relay, double checked it was clicking and then decided to remove it. I removed it and while I was looking at it I noticed the clip and thought to myself "why didnt I need a screwdriver to get this undone". So i put it back together and "click" a satisfying sound - Headlights are working properly so relay wasnt properly fastened. The other thing I learnt is to check the basics before you start stripping switches etc :|

hello, sorry to refloat this

I have a question maybe you could help. I bought a nc30 single headlight to fit in the fairing I'm adapting to my vtr250. my vtr uses h4 60/55w. After adapting the bulb tabs to make it fit now my question is if the 55w lamp can damage the deflector due to overheating as it has more power than the 35w this headlight should use. if that's the case, could I use the 35w nc30 lamp on my vtr without any changes to the installation?

thank you

you should be able to use the stock bulb in your vtr without any issue as it draws less power not more.

I dont think it will cause issue never heard of it (I run H4 bulbs).

The H4R is 35/60, the H4 is 55/60

So the high beam is the same power on each.. so only your low beam is more powerful.

thank you neosophist,

I'll go with the h4 then. I have one light only so the more power the better :)
