Carb cleanout. Q #1 : all pilots fully closed

Hi all,

Got my carbs off for a good clean and de-mud after a recent track bingle.

All four carbs had the pilot completely closed. Mains are 140, pilots 40.

Looks like it was done on purpose.

Setup is HRC with no airbox, very short stacks, and drilled plate and all that gubbins.

Any thoughts as to why?

Pilot screws or pilot jets?

I used to have the pilot screws set at 1.5 turns out with full hrc carb setup, but each bike might be a bit different. It can take a bit of trial and error to find what the bike likes best.

Check that the screw o-rings provide enough resistance so that the screws don't turn through vibration. Blair (LiteTek) provides reproduction O-rings in his carb kit if they need to be renewed.

Cleared it up. Screw or Jet? Jet. Thanks, yes, I was thinking the jet was not to be all the way in, but it is the screw that 'screwed' me up. My misunderstanding.

So, no issues, just my lack of knowledge of how these things fit together. Thank Dog for Haynes and you guys on this forum. :-) But ... this, is how we learn.

Next question: Is there any magic to getting the stubby rubber 'stacks'. :-) I am tempted to get a screw driver in underneath and pry them out, but they look expensive. :-)

you need to remove the carb plate first then roll them off, they are clamped down with the plate in situe
