How does connecting a wire to the batteries - neg terminal help the rec/reg

I assume you are refering to the addition of a wire from the rect/reg -ve output terminal directly to the chassis or the
-ve battery terminal. This additional wire reduces the losses within the charging system and should better charge the battery.
