RVF 400 swingarm question

Post by silverbullet132 » Thu May 16, 2013 3:53 am

Hello :)

Does anyone happen to have the swingarm pivot width and bolt size for the RVF 400 swingarm?

What rim would I need to fit a 180 tire? This is for a project bike. Thanks!

This might help:

You would need to mount the swingarm to the left if you want the 180 tyre to be in line with the front tyre.

Thanks a bunch!

Looks like I can use either arm, the stock bolt on my bike is 16mm. What rim would I need to use a 180 tire? Any 5 spoke available in the 5.5" to fit? Or even 5.25"?

Also what did you mean mount it to the left? Less spacers on the left vs the right?

This is for a 78 GS750, should have mentioned. It is getting an 03 GSXR 1000 front end.

I think the later VFR 750 is either 5 or 6 spoke and is 5.5", looks quite nice too. With a few mods that could be grafted onto a VFR or RVF axle.

What cammo means by moving the swingarm to the left to accomodate the 180 tyre is that normally you cant fit a 180 tyre on the NC as it will hit the swingarm so what you need to do is space the wheel to the right say 5mm and then make up a new spacer for the swingarm to move it to the left 5mm therefore bringing the wheel back to the centre, hope that makes sense.

Your project sounds interesting, i do like a special :peace: Have you thought about a ducati single sided swingarm? That will take a 180 tyre no problem so may mean less messing about to get everything centre.

VFR750/800 swinger.. Or a ducati, or perhaps a CB1000 new styler..

Those are all way too wide for this bike as far as I can tell.

The appeal of the RVF arm was that it is easily 30mm smaller so I could get some spacers machined to make it fit. Ideal if funds allowed would be an MV F4 swingarm but those are soooo expensive.
