1993 Superfour speedo and tacho not working.

Post by Kylem87 » Wed May 01, 2013 8:22 pm

Hi guys, right need all electrical guru's help here. Just got my bike after previous owner slid it up the road. As stated the speedo and rev counter don't work, neither do I get an oil warming lit when ignition is on, no side stand light, and no neutral light.

I've checked the red and white connections under the tank and they seem ok, however just behind the white plug there's an orange wire with a blue strip and a bullet connection just hanging there :sshh: Dosent seem oxidised or anything so makes me think it should be connected but I cannot find anything to plug it into, anyone any ideas?

Other than that all connections seem good, the speedo drive cable is ok so I'm guessing and slightly hoping this is all one fault caused by a dodgy electrical connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.s this is my first post (apart from an introduction) so if I've made a mistake or messed it up go easy.cheers.

Speedo should just operate with the cable as it's gear driven.

Sounds silly, but have you checked the fuse box? If you have then it sounds like you've got to get the multimeter out.

Cheers 4 reply, yea checked the fuses and sadly wasn't them, ended buying a whole new set of clocks off eBay, £82 quid delivered. So not 2 bad, but then to find out that the actual speedo drive and temperature sensor are knackered (slap head with palm!!). So just waiting for them too arrive, but I now have a rev counter and could test the bike out over 6k revs  .

Been thinking about a set of upside down forks, was wondering if anyone knew of any that would fit or maybe only require minor adjustment, don't fancy having both yokes completly machined. Cheers guys.

USDs would look cool but not cheap.... You'd need new yokes and headlight mounts, possible wheel and discs, and maybe callipers. I'd go measure up a set of Honda RRY forks or some CBR600 and look at a whole front end swap out.

I'd probably throw a set of ktec or Hagon springs in myself.
