Seat Mounts - 1 Snapped - Ok to ride?

Post by iDemonix » Tue Apr 23, 2013 12:29 pm

Stupid question that common sense should answer really but...

Ford Mondeo's suspension collapsed on the drive to work, booked it in for new springs on Thursday but need to get to work for 2 days and 3 days ago one of the seat mounts on the NC30 snapped - would you say it's safe to ride?

Does anyone know if there's any loops etc on the bottom of the seat I could get a cable tie round to hold it down?

Also, I'm going to try plastex the mount back on, has anyone done the mod with a strip of metal from mount-to-mount to get it a bit more solid? I've got two rear fairings now both with snapped mounts! Common issue it seems, and I'm only light!

Cheers,
Dan

If it's any use I only have one seat mount attached to the seat, no problems whatsoever :peace:

I dont think theres any weight on them at all when the seat is installed.. it is people removing the tail piece that snaps them off if your not careful.

ive seen plenty of snapped ones too.

Hi, i made some stainless brackets to hold the seat on my nc, then glass fibered them on, been on for years. The plastic lugs were snapped off before i got it.
Cheers

Have you suddenly put on a lot of weight?

In all honesty I have never had them. The previous owner seemed to see fit to use a strip of stick on velcro on each frame rail. If you arent fully happy with one mount you could always supplement it with that!

I even use the velcro method on my race NC as its makes getting to the battery and CDI super fast.

Same thing for me. Somewhere a long the line someone velcrod the seat on and have had no troubles with it.
