Left Hand Switchgear, any other models work?

Post by oldgreyandslow » Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:19 pm

My right turn indicator seems reluctant to work, left is fine and they flash on OK when arming or disarming the alarm. When selecting the right turn switch it seems to hesitate some times, you can hear the relay making a couple of rapid contacts before settling into the usual on/off routine.

I am hoping a strip down and clean of the switch will cure it, however if not does switch gear from any other Honda fit?

Also how difficult is stripping the switch, and any other suggestions on things to check would be welcome.

Thanks

Had a similar problem on mine.
I stripped and cleaned the contacts, and now it works.
The 2 fixing screws clamping the switch to the bars can be tight, and go carefully when you take it apart as springs can fly out, but not too bad if you look at how it works and how it fits together.

Remove switch from bar, remove cover over contacts, remove sliding contact and clean it and the fixed ones.

Yes, I think you`re right Kev but that still leaves you buying old second hand stuff or being ripped off by Honda.

I have located a pattern switch which seems to have the right functions and just needs a change of connectors - I`ve ordered one to check and if it works out it should sell for maybe a third of the price of a new Honda unit.

Crap in the switch.

Clean everything up nice. I coated mine with a very light smear of electric grease to stop everything oxidising due to the damp. I think too much grease will attract dirt.

Was around a year ago when I had the exact same issue, no problesm since.

Might be worth a look. I have no connection with the seller. Well, I did buy a top rad from them a month or two ago that was in fair nick.
