Sticking main beam switch!

I put a proper H4 in me exup and the hi/lo beam switch melted, tho its not a honda and doesnt have any relays..........I made another loom for the NC30 when i put in the rally spec bulb with two high current relays cos i didnt know how much current the honda one would handle.

Perhaps Cammo has come across it before from his post, but I've come across it on the NC24 and NC30 (NC24 runs H4 as standard too) but the switch gets crapped up.

Sure have seen it before, on most (all?) nc30's that I've owned. This problem, and a delay in indicators coming on after switched, is caused by a build up of dirty grease. Cleaning with contact cleaner seems to prolong the problems but eventually contacts wear out in the switch.

Rvf's don't have this problem, the switchgear is a much better design. I've been meaning to replace my nc30 switch with an rvf one I have, I might document it when I do. Or switchgear from a newer model altogether might be more appropriate depending on cost?

I was under the impression from others that NC30 switchgear had a different pin arrangement to the NC35 and the job is more than just plug and play? New RVF ones are about £70GBP delivered.

That's right no plug and play options, but it shouldn't be hard to get a good result with new connectors/pins and wiring diagrams for both bikes.

Thanks guys! Guess its crap in the switchgear, in the same way a mouse was living in the air box. I don't think any previous owner has done anything technical to this bike, so I will strip and clean!
Hope it's not full of pingfukits.

No, the only PF is in the latching hi/lo switch, and it'll only try and escape when you take that apart, and not before. however, you do need to take it apart to investigate the contacts if the switch is still a bit dodgy feeling after you've blasted it with a bit of cleaner.
