Foot rests problem

Post by Dlugosh » Mon Nov 05, 2012 11:06 am

Hi today I was trying to put bk passangers foot rest into my Vfr( as previous owner removed them) n on the left side on the bike I've snapped One of the bolt (in half) sticking out of the back frame. I still can fit the nut to screw in exhaust holder n fit it on both bolts. But I can't fit properly my foot rests N I want to be sure pillion will be safe riding with me.
Please give me some options.
Can I weld that side of a foot rest into the frame or ????
Please help

Just drill straight through the sub frame with an 8mm drill but and stick and m8 bolt in

You say there is enough thread to get a nut on,
So you have two options,1.Grip whats left with a molegrips.
2.get someone to weld a nut on the thread, let it cool then turn out.

Basically I got enough tread to screw the nut n fit exhaust holder but not a foot rest.

As one of the others have said - I'd snap the rest off the broken bolt. Drill it out and replace it with a long bolt to go through the subframe. This way the foot peg will be secure and your pillion safe.

I think there spot welded from the back so just grind the weld off and the rest of the thread should just fall out, replace with a bolt.

Big thanks for all your replys.... I thi k I'm decided to drill that hole n put another bolt going thru.
Just one more question. I've asked in one garage one of the mechanics about drilling the hole thru the subframe n he said he wouldnt do that as I could damage the subframe wa could eventually snap it ?????
So is drilling the hole thru the old bolt safe optionn it wouldn't affect the frame???
Thanks all for your help.

Should be fine as long as you are careful when you grind the weld off of the stud. If you're worried about weakening the subframe you could always ask someone to weld around the end of the new bolt, but don't forget that the bolt will be filling the hole, so it's hardly going to create a weak point unless you damage the frame rail when removing the old one....

Ok thanks every1..... At least I know It can be sorted as Ive been afraid I'll never take any1 as a pillion...
But do u think I'll be able to sort it without stripping the whole bk of the bike???? How do u reckon???? Is it easy to take off the rear mudguard n the rest to hav a nice access to the point I'll be grinding n drilling ?
Thank u all
