Cheap oil for drainig/flushing the system.

Post by xivlia » Sat Sep 01, 2012 12:54 pm

Hi, ive been having some trouble finding cheap engine oil to flush the system after it was contaminated with petrol.
now ive found castrol GTX from asda.. and its cheap as hell. 4 pounds per liter, not sure if its the one i can use though, i know its 10w40 but i dont know about the grades, it says it on the description.

http://reviews.asda.com/1440-en_gb/0010 ... eviews.htm

so is that okay to use?

No - not good.

You need a motorcycle oil. It can be mineral oil, semi synth - does not matter. but not a car oil.

Go and get whatever cheap oil you can that is for motorbikes. Using a car oil *could* leave you with a knackered clutch as it has a load of shit in it.

I can get a motorex oil for 20 for 4 litres at my local shop - not the cheapest..but can be done.

Get down to Hein Gericke and see if they have any cheap mineral oil left on the shelves. Everything is heavily discounted now.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.
