Mounting front brake reservoir with a different m/cyl

Post by banoffee » Sat Aug 11, 2012 5:22 pm

Where/how have folks mounted their front res pots when using a different master cylinder? Am looking for a neat 'factory style' solution. Show me yours please

When I've used units with remote reservoirs I've always used the res and mounting hardware that came with the m/c.

What sort of m/c is it? I bought a new nissin one from Japan and it came with a couple of mounting options.

At the moment I have a master cylinder from a 03-04 600rr fitted, the reservoir is built into the lever perch so no mounting dramas:

Is the above a direct bolt on to the bar for an NC35? I've got a pair of 03 RR/SP calipers, but the seller had been using a standard NC35 m/c with them. I'm a little concerned at the potential for the reservoir to collide with either the fairing stay, air tube or the edge of the fairing itself. I'm in no rush, seeing as the seller didn't know or didn't bother to tell me that the pad springs were missing, and the pads look pretty crappy too and I'd rather not use them on my new discs. I was hoping I might be able to take them out and rub them down so they were nice and flat, but I don't think I'd have much left. Originally thought that the pads were the same as the standard calipers, so that's more money too.... Still, I didn't think about £80 was too bad for calipers, braideds hoses and a spare NC35 m/c.

Not sure if my choice is "a neat 'factory style' solution", but it is easy enough to do and it retains pretty much its original position! It is secured by the top yoke bolt!

On the nc30 it can foul the fairing in some positions, it could be worse on the 35?

That what I was thinking. Currently, the things aren't very cheap on eBay, so I'd be wary of spending £60 odd on the m/c to find out it won't fit, and it's not something I like the idea of butchering! Having had a squizz on eBay for an SP1 m/c, it seems that these use a remote reservoir unlike the all in one unit on the CBR. Might be worth a look. I assume they will be the same m/c in as far as the piston assembly will have the same dimensions seeing as the calipers are the same. Or will they?
