Oil level check - both wheels on ground, or on Stand okay?

Post by marty400 » Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:45 am

Hiya all,

This has got me thinking.

I put the bike up on the ABBA stand, to do the oil level check.

However.... this makes the rear wheel raise significantly, and the bike is not level to the ground now.

Am I overfilling the engine each time, because the engine oil is flowing to the front of the sump?

Hope you can advise.

Cheers
Martin

PS:
If i do need to check oil with both wheels on ground, then what is the best way to do it?

Yes, if you check it on the Abba stand, you will be overfilling it. VOE.

Sit on the bike to check it, as above.

Also the dipstick doesn't screw in for the oil level check, just press it to the thread.
