A 20-30 mile ride may give it enough charge to start up again, but for the record, ideally you need a good 8+ hours on a trickle charger for best results, ignore the little light saying it's charged, leave it on all night.

Suggest you research lithium-ion batteries and their charging requirements or contact your supplier and ask them. To my mind there appears to be conflicting information even from suppliers of lithium-ion batteries. Recommendations include claims that charging needs to be tightly controlled and normal motorcycles chargers may not be suitable, yet they can be fitted to motorcycles that have relatively simple control over their charging cycle. Even a load test suitable for lead acid batteries may not be relevant to lithium-ion or lithium-iron batteries.

After further research a couple of my earlier comments are incorrect, your battery is lithium-iron. Lithium-ion is a class of batteries of which lithium-iron is one type.

Hmm so it seems its a grey area?

I came across an american company whilst researching lithium-iron, who solely manufacture these batteries for vehicles and claim them to be for normal use.

I'll give the company my battery is from a bell and drop the american one an e-mail and see what they say.

As for the trickle charger, I left the bike overnight on it on sunday after it wouldn't start, then did the tests monday and after went over to my gf's and my mum's (both 4-6 mile rides).

Came back and put it back on charge and the charger had said that the battery charge had dropped back to low again......

Hopefully these manufacturers can shed some light on the subject.

Well the company I bought the battery from got back to me and have sent out a replacement as they think the battery was to fault.

Time will tell whether this one does the same....

Hope you have success. I suggest that you ensure that you get more than 14 volts at the battery at 5000 rpm and you should see at least 13 volts when idling with lights off.
