Battery

Post by steve92 » Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:07 pm

Can anyone recommend a good battery to use for running total loss?

I got a race subframe now the standard battery is too big, so i'm looking for one thats going to last a day on track.

The battery tray measures 120mm x 70mm. What bike would use this size just so i know what i should be looking for?

I've been looking at the motobatt ones on ebay, whats your thoughts on these?

Thanks Stephen.

Stephen, even your larger YTX9 would probably struggle to do a whole trackday, assuming the usual 7 x 20 minutes. With a smaller one, I'd guess around 2.5Ah given your dimensions stated, you'd be much better advised to make provision for charging between sessions or refit the charging electrics.

A YT4L-BS is about 120 x 70 x 80 in size, and generally rated at 3Ah.

Thanks Malc,
is it ok too charge off a genny, how does most people run all day?

I know charging batterys for cordless tools on a genny wrecks the charger.

You will run for a full trackday on a ytx9 with some to spare , i have run total loss on my last nc30 and have total loss on my nc35, i even forgot to re charge my nc30 before a trackday and it still ran ok . use a good quality battery and avoid cheap shite.

Kev, does yours have a fuel pump? Mine did which I guess would explain why I had to recharge between sessions.

Yes Stephen, running Optimates and like iff gennys is fine and a very common site in the paddock.
