help needed new to bikes carb clean(SYDNEY)

Post by SP2VFR » Tue Dec 20, 2011 8:24 am

hi guys
i just bought my first bike which is a vfr400 got a decent bike for a recent price from a decent bloke lol,I am in sydney.

k when i first test drove the bike it was fine but was missing a lil bit but the guy did mention it was about 200kms due on service and the bike set for 4 months and the petrol was really old.
bought the bike got it home rode arround the street it kept getting worse finally after reading cammos post on carbs clean i decided this is the way to go and belived the bike required a total clean.

ive taken the ferrings off did the oil/oilfilter change(oil was black)cleaned the chain did the lube on that now im about to start the carbs.when i took off the tank the petrol was flurocent yelloew it dosnt even smell like petrol.it has a oem honda air filter which was covered in dust and had several leaves and dead insects in the airbox. everythings standard on the bike.

My questions
*is their a shop in sydney where i can buy the spark plug socket and carb gaskets, main jets, dnt really wana wait to recieve goods from international sellers(christmas delays)
*can i trust the old air filter as ive seen one on ebay that looked worse then mine and the guy claimed it was in ok condition and was going for 10 pounds
*is hiflow air filters good enough or should i buy oem air filter which is hard to find(unless somone knows a place in sydney).found some on wemoto.com
*bike has developed a problem going in neutral when its runing but its ok when its turned off.
*do i need to change my jets even if im just changing the can on the exhaust(over racing carbon)

any help would be highly appreciated i really want to get done with all this soon so i can register the bike first week of jan...

You just need a 13mm 'deep' socket and an extension to get the plugs out, supercheap auto stocks them. You can get all other parts through RB racing (Caringbah): http://www.rbimports.com.au/

Probably won't be too bad if it doesn't look too dirty. Blowing it out from behind with compressed air might clean it up a bit if you're worried.

Stick with a standard honda air filter only. Aftermarket ones will throw your jetting right out and make it run worse. RB's should have them in stock.

That's pretty normal for these bikes, nothing wrong. Slowly rev it to about 3000 rpm and it should go in.

They should be fine.
