NC23 lost second gear

Post by thewhizzard » Sun Oct 23, 2011 6:29 pm

we have just aquired a 23 and it has `lost` second gear, it selects first ok but when you hook second it goes into a false neutral, then when you hook third its fine and visa versa on the way down. i realise that the engine is going to have to come out but has anyone else suffered the same problem.

Both the 23&29 are known to suffer with 2nd gear problems.

Once you have stripped it you are likely to find word selector dogs, replace these good as new.

No idea but I very much doubt it, all 3 of the cbr range were very different bikes.

We took the engine out and split the cases, the problem was the second gear pinion had shattered and was lying in the bottom of the cases .luckily there seem to be no other damage.
Going to see if i can get the second gear pinion on its own rather than replace the whole input shaft ;)
anyone know if these are available on there own?

Try contacting Graeme France, he seems to have most parts lying around!
