Remove the chain from the front sprocket, without removing the front sprocket.

Is this actually possible? I had a try last night but there's gunk there and I couldn't get the chain far enough off the sprocket down the bottom to slide it off. So is it possible to get the chain off the front sprocket, or do you need to remove the sprocket?

Have you adjusted the eccentric hub in the rear to give the chain as much slack as possible?

I have never tried. When replacing a chain, I break it first. That is the only time I need to get the chain off of a sprocket. Is there even enough room to clear the teeth with the chain?

cant remember either if im honest. i cut mine to change too. slacken the rear as said and see if you have enough slack to slip over it.

Nah, it's not possible to remove the chain from the front sprocket without removing the front sprocket first.. I need to drop the engine, hence why I had to remove the chain from the front sprocket.

I ended up just removing the front sprocket. It wasn't Loctited so it wasn't a problem, but the bloke who has pulled this bike apart before me, obviously hasn't put shit back together correctly, found multiple stripped threads and things not loctited that should be. But what can you do, noobs will be noobs.

I tend to use medium strenth threadlock on nuts and bolts that it's specified for. If you use the super strong stuff you'll never get it apart again, if it's in soft aluminium it often strips the threads.
