Boken drill in bolt!!!

Post by scotjell » Sun Oct 30, 2011 11:21 am

Hi all I know this isn't my NC30 but my little polo and unfortunately sheared off a bolt in the process off drilling out as the drill broke through snapped!! Does anyone know of a good company in the Bristol area for spark/EDM erosion to remove it. Oh forgot to mention its in the gearbox which is off the car as was in the process of doing the clutch!

I use a company in Hampshire when it's required. It's not cheap but they are mustard. Last time I used them they took a bolt out, with a snapped off easy out that had been inserted off centre, without even damaging the threads. Bit off a trek from Brisol though.

Another way to get it out it to use a die grinder with a diamond tip, to grind out a center. Then use a 3 or 4mm carbide drill in a regular drill press. It has to be going FAST however. Like as fast as the average drill press goes. Carbide will smoke through any hss drill.

Then in there with your favorite kind of broken fastener removal tool.

I've removed dozens of broken cap screws and bolts like this.
