Hi
I've got an NC24 VFR which I bought as a fixer-upper. Just changed the engine, and was a bit cocky taking all the hoses off - I thought I'd remember where they all went, but I have one left over. The vacuum hose comes off the carbs to the rear, and hits a y-piece. On the other end of the y-piece are 2 hoses of the same length - around 18". One goes to the fuel tap, but where does the other one go? I'm sure I'm being dumb. I looked in the Haynes manual, but no help.
BTW, the bike runs fine without them connected..
thanks in advance
Robin
New to the VFR - where do the vacuum hoses go?

Re: New to the VFR - where do the vacuum hoses go?
Howdo..
Well..
err..the vacuum hose is from the cylinder 3 to the fuel tap. Nowt from the carbs.
Seeing as you'll be hanging about, get us some pics! We'll sort you out...

Erm.. one shouldn't goto the fuel tap...
The fuel tap as mark said has the main fuel pipe which goes to the carbs and small vaccum hose which goes to cylinder number 1 on the NC24. (left rear when sitting on the bike)
the only other hoses are drain hoses... espeically with the t-piece in it... one goes to teh air-box.. one goes to the coolant bottle

Re: New to the VFR - where do the vacuum hoses go?
Hi
OK, now I've looked closer. The fuel tap has a fuel pipe and two (yes two) vacuum pipes. All run horizontal from the tank. I guess the 2 pipes from the y-peice are drain pipes, and I am just missing the vacuum pipe(s) from cylinder 1. Also there's a hole in the bottom of the tank towards the front of the tank on the same side as the fuel tap. Where does that go?
I think as the bike was a non-runner (and possibly a bitsa) when I got it, the pipes were always wrong, but I need to know how to plumb them. Ideally some good pictures. As I said, this is an NC24, though I will check that the engine is the right one - I suppose it could be earlier or later.
Any help much appreciated. The Haynes manual is for an NC30, and in glorious blurry black-and-white, so not too much help.
Robin
PS promise to put pics up soon. It's a naked built to my requirements, so purists look away now..

The NC30 manual is almost completely useless for the NC24, everythings different.rhennem wrote:Hi

Put up a picture of the tank and the pipes you have.
It sounds majorly wrong.
The fuel Tap for the NC21/24 is the same.
Big handle on the outisde of the fuel tank connected to the tap.
You have on the fuel tap a BIG hose.. the is the fuel hose and goes to the T/Y piece that feeds the carbs.
You have two small spiggots.. ones is a pressure release so isn't connected to anything, the outermost one is the vaccumn pipe.. a small think 4mm ID tube connects to this and the other end goes to a brass spigot that sticks out the side of cylinder 1 (rear left when sittign on bike) the spiggot can be hard to see as it's hidden by the frame.. it's on the outside of the cylinder and about half way up.

Re: New to the VFR - where do the vacuum hoses go?
Thanks very much Neosophist. I found the vacuum hose, hidden down the side of the engine as you said! Easy when you know where to look. The bike definitely didn't have it connected before, so that might be why it wouldn't run.... When you say outermost, is it the one closest to the fuel pipe, or furthest?

I worked out the hole under the tank at the front is a drain - it lines up with the little cup on top of the air box. I still don't know where the two hoses go that come out from the back of the carbs - if they're breathers, why do they split in 2? Anyhow, ready to put it back together and see how it runs.
ps I've found the VFR easy for bits, and a lovely little swiss watch of a bike with great engineering and design. My other grey bike is an FT400 - that's a different kettle of fish, but it's close to ready. I'll put a listing in the relevant section and see if anyone else has one.

Re: New to the VFR - where do the vacuum hoses go?
In your fuel tap picture.
Left one (big pipe) fuel
Middle one, vent / pressure relife (no need to connect)
Outer on (right) vaccum hose.
Wihtout this connected the fuel won't flow, even with tap 'on'
Which pipes are you referring to from the carbs? take a picture.. they might just be the throttle slide vents.
