Nc35 electrical problem (lights)

Post by code2006 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 12:41 am

I need some help on were to start with my low beam lights
When turn the ignition on my low beam lights don't turn on by my speedo lights do but if I move the starter motor switch or even start the bike the lights will come on

Now sometimes they will come on and stay on when I move the starter button or if the lights don't stay on I would have to keep moving the button till the lights stay on. I think it might be an earth problem ?

And my 2nd problem is that my speedo dont even light up very well
From 0-40 mph my speedo has light then after that theres no light and I can't c how fast I'm going but the rev counter is fine
Can I change the bulbs on the speedo? Maybe even some brighter ones?
Thanks

Suggestions based on NC30 wiring diagram but would expect NC35 to be same or similar.

Starting with the speedo light question first, there are two illumintaion bulbs in an NC30 speedo, if NC35 is the same it sounds like one of yours has failed. They are accessable from the rear of the speedo, one at the top & a second at the bottom.

Now your low beam headlight issue. Just to clarify the turn on sequence, you turn on the ignition & then set the handle bar light switch to the H position and the low beam lights do not come on. You press the start button & the low beam lights might turn on, or if they do not you then you keep moving the handle bar light switch back & forth. When you move the light switch back & forth, are you pressing the start button or is the motor running ?

What happens if you turn on the ignition, set the handle bar light switch to H & then try to select high beam.

My assumption that NC30 & NC35 wiring would be similar was way off. Had a look at an NC35 wiring diagram & as you said no headlight switch. You have lights on when engine running system.

Suspect you problem is in the starter switch. This switch has two functions; apply power to starter relay & removes power from headlight circuit during engine start, so as to reduce the load on the battery. Sounds like functioin 2 has become intermittent. You need to dissassemble the start switch & clean the headlight circuit switch.

Can alkso cinfirm that NC35 speedo has two illumination lamps.
