Front braided lines clamping

hi, ive got some goodridge braided front brake lines and i was wondering how, or if you guys secure the lines together in the middle and whats the best option. Obviously the lines need to be free to move on full lock and when forks are compressed.

Put the lines through the original clamp and rubber grommets - same as stock?
Put a couple of zip ties on the lines and leave hanging loose?
Use a goodridge hose clamp and leave hanging loose?

any pics of alignment or clamping type would be a bonus!! ;)

Also ive noticed the washers are coloured orange? will they be copper material underneath all the coatings? I know the oem washers are chrome coloured. I had some hel lines that where just copper! what the difference?

i just use a cable tie, i did toy with the idea of putting P clips on the side of the front fender but drilling holes into my fender put me off. in the middle where the bottom yoke is.

Cheers for the info dude, i think ill attack those seals and try grease the bearings tomorrow, nothing to loose as their scrap otherwise.

Ive seen a few sets of braided lines on ebay that have put the lines through the oem bracket so i think ill just do that for now. The rubber grommets should protect the lines and keep them in the correct position.

Any idea about the goodridge banjo washers? what are they made from as they are chrome finish thats been painted orange to resemble copper washers?
Ive had hel lines which use copper washers and i can just anneal them to renew the shape before re-use!
Not a problem though, just curious!!

FWIW buy new washers they are only about 20p, and its not something you want to skrimp on is brakes.

they should always and only be copper washers.

ive got some stainless front banjo bolts i gotta get round to changing but will probally wait for the winter to do them cant be arsed to loose any road time now :)

The washers are copper, because they're soft and deform to create an effective seal when the banjo bolt is tightened to the correct torque. Always use new washers when fitting brake lines; the old ones will be crushed and won't seal properly, and anyway new ones cost hardly anything especially if you buy in bulk - Earl's do 50 for £4.20

I never restrain my brake lines. They're fixed at the top and bottom and I reckon that'll be enough.
A salty old biker once told me that you could re anneal the copper washers by heating them until they're HOT, like cherry red hot and then letting them cool.
How hard can it be?

It's certainly possible but I wouldn't rely on it. Depends on if you've got the time and gear to do it, I suppose.
I wouldn't bother meself - it'd cost the same in gas as to buy a new one.

How do you get the indentations from the steel banjos out, though?

i was going to say the same it probally uses more gas in your blow torch than it would to buy newbanjo washers,

20p a pop x 7 = £1.40 and you havent the hastle of melting them and the chance of them not sealing right

I used to simply anneal (reform to original shape) used copper washers before over the gas hob by heating them till they glow, then drop em into a cup of water and sand off the black muck with 15000 wet and dry sandpaper on a flat surface! But i didnt like the different washers i have (copper/chromed copper etc) so i bought 40 copper washers for £3.99 posted off ebay.

as for tieing the lines back to the original question,

i dont use a cable tie no more, i used a velcro strap of a nokia charger :)
