leaking clutch cover!
hey guys, i recently replaced my clutch cover gasket, with a genuine honda gasket, cleaned all sufrace area up, made sure it was spotless and clean, put gasket sealant on each side of the gasket, put it on the casing, and tightened it all up, went for a ride and it's still leaking slightly? anyone got any idea's what it could be? it almost looks as if its leaking from a bolt? i'll try get some pictures, but its got me puzzled :S

Re: leaking clutch cover!
You don't need gasket sealent on the clutch cover gaset if your using the genine honda item.
just clean the surfaces, drop the gasket in and bolt it together.
most likely.
1. gasket sealent is stopping the seal becuase its too thick with the gasket.
2. cleaning the surfaces created a gouge and oil is leaking from it
3. overtightenend bolt has cracked the hosuing and oil is getting through the crack
4. undertightened botls...

leaking clutch cover!
I have the same problem with my nc35
There's a slight leak but I have traced it and it's coming from a bold
Who ever took the clutch cover off and put it back on used a sealant and not a proper paper gasket so it's leaking through one of the bolts (bolt is tight)
I recommend using an original Honda gasket
Use original and u will never have a problem
Ps I'm to lazy to fix my problem as it's a very minor leak

so your saying i should wipe the gasket sealant off and just put the genuine honda gasket it on its own ok :)
it needed to be cleaned, there was loads of dirt/muck and bits all around it =/
im sure i tightened the bolts enough :) but im unsure about a crack on the housing im gonna have a look shortly!
doing my head in though, keep taking clutch cover off etc =/ and still leaking

Re: leaking clutch cover!
basically ive done almost everything now, and its still leaking, looks as if its coming from a bolt, ive got new genuine honda gasket on, wiped the sealant off and cleaned the surface, tightened bolts etc, yet still seems to be leaking =/

Re: leaking clutch cover!
Check that the bolt isn't bent (not always easy to see with your eye, hold it alongside another bolt of the same size), this will prevent it from sealing properly.
Check also that the thread in the engine case isn't stripped at all. I had a leak from one of the bolts, found a stripped thread so put a helicoil kit in which fixed it nicely.

Re: leaking clutch cover!
hey buddy, ive checked the bolts all fine, removed the sealant from the genuine honda gasket and cleaned all surfaces and put gasket back in, im hoping the leak will stop, only one small fault i could find, were 2 small slight chips in the clutch cover on the inside, but i doubt thats it, they're only small, will try to take a pic, if i have to take it off again.....which i hope not!!!

Re: leaking clutch cover!
Doesn't matter how small a hole you have got, it will leak. You can either replace the cover or you can attempt a repair using chemical metal or araldite. Leaks don't ever fix themselves, the most you can hope for is that it doesn't make itself any worse.majormadass wrote:hey buddy, ive checked the bolts all fine, removed the sealant from the genuine honda gasket and cleaned all surfaces and put gasket back in, im hoping the leak will stop, only one small fault i could find, were 2 small slight chips in the clutch cover on the inside, but i doubt thats it, they're only small, will try to take a pic, if i have to take it off again.....which i hope not!!!
Other than that the only leak I have had was when I half-way stripped the thread in the clutch cover on my CB-1. This meant you couldn't get enough torque on the bolt to actually pull it tight enough to seal. Luckily it was one where I could drill the hole through and put a nut on the back of a longer bolt.

Re: leaking clutch cover!
just really annoying me, i've tried everything =/ 1 thing left is to try threadlocker on the bolt, if not i need a new casing, but if it still leaks with a new casing im gonna be angry =/
