Sluggish when pulling off

My bike used to slip like crazy when trying to pull off, so I put a new clutch in using EBC heavy duty plates. Now I find it impossible to pull off quickly at all, the revs just aren't there no matter how high I hold them before I let the clutch out - they just die straight down. It's kind of hard to explain, but even after you're off in 1st gear (say 15mph) when you pull on the throttle it just seems a bit hesitant - a lot slower than a V4 400 should... once you get in to 2nd it's all roses and it'll pull like a steam train.

Is it because I chose cheaper heavy duty plates over races plates? A decision I'm now going to hate myself for for the next few years? I think my carb balance is out and my engine sounds (to me) a bit clicky or tappety, so at some point this summer I might brave valve clearances (or just get a garage to do it, seems like one hell of a job), but I can't afford a carb tuner for now and would rather do valve clearances in the same day whilst the carbs are visible.

Stick a 14T on the Front,

you have to give the VFR plenty of revs to pull off,

your brakes arnt binding are they? bearings all smooth? and chain adjusted right?

I've been adjusting the chain lately trying to get it perfect - as far as the brakes are concerned I'm not sure what binding means :oops:

To be honest though, when I push the bike forwards I can hear the front wheel going round if that makes sense? Sort of like the front brakes are a little bit on. I don't have the tools to remove the front wheel or anything though so not sure how to investigate. My rear wheel could do with a regrease or new bearings as it doesn't spin freely when off the ground without a good push, again don't have the tools to remove the rear hub or the cash for new bearings :/

What's the standard teeth on the front sprocket? If I go to 14t will it be wheely happy?

binding means the pistons are starting to seize and the pads constantly rub the discs in a light brakeing motion causing wear to the parts and a lose of power

get someone to help you lean the bike on the side stand so you can rotate the front and rear separately

standard is 15T it wont be wheelie happy it will just pull off better
