So cammo just to confirm that im reading your post correctly, you match the numbers marked on the carbs to the relevant cylinder i.e - rubbers marked 1#4 go on cylinders 1 and 4 which in affect put the different rubbers diagonally on each bank of cylinders ?
my carbs fit on quite easy , no shoving or hard pressing just tuck the front two venturi's in and the backs plop in at the back even with the rubbers which were on there which were wrong.

Re: air leak
once i put the new carb rubbers on i placed the carbs in with no clips, they drop in sweet but once in i can feel the carbs rock diagonally a touch - they seem to hinge on the left front carb, im starting to believe now that the carbs could be a bit out of shape?
the only thing i have noticed difference wise on the rubbers is that on ones marked 2#3 they dont have the raised notch on the top clamp ring part of the rubber- what are they there / not there for? are the rvf clamps different with the vfr ones ? i.e location holes drilled in the clamps to fix the clamps in one spot?
once again what sort of price should i look for giving for a set of rvf carbs ?

That does not sound right!zymon wrote:they drop in sweet but once in i can feel the carbs rock diagonally a touch - they seem to hinge on the left front carb, im starting to believe now that the carbs could be a bit out of shape?
They should be solid mounted together, no movement at all.
I wouldn't get too hung up on differences between the rubbers etc, they all work fine whichever cylinder they're used on.

Re: air leak
Hi there, the rubbers are only different in that 1-4 and 2-3 have little dimples on them for locating the hose-clamps in their "ideal" orientations. Having a 1-4 on a 2-3 cylinder will in no way effect its ability to seal properly. Don't get too hung up about this little detail. Sorry I can't help any more...zymon wrote:So cammo just to confirm that im reading your post correctly, you match the numbers marked on the carbs to the relevant cylinder i.e - rubbers marked 1#4 go on cylinders 1 and 4 which in affect put the different rubbers diagonally on each bank of cylinders ?

Re: air leak
well as part of the trying to locate this air leak i decided to put my carbs back on and remove the cast metal tray which keeps the carbs located, i put it on my kitchen unit and it does appear to be a bit out of shape
Secondly as the tray was off i did up the clips ( undone the two 10mm nuts which hold each bank of carbs together ) and tested again for revs picking up when i spray- still bloody does it. At this point im thinking its got to be the carbs right?
Could anyone ( to keep my sanity ) get some liquid ( water perhaps ) in a spray bottle and spray their underside of their carbs when the engine is running to see if anyone else has this problem? i dont recommend wd40 as its harmful to rubber lol
im running out of time before i go to the ring !

Re: air leak
it was the carbs !!
picked up a second hand set yesterday of a really nice chap, took them into my old work where i was mot'ing cars and stripped them down for cleaning out , made a slight whoopsie tho - ive been lucky all these years i have cleaned out carbs on my vfr because i never must of had the diaphragms in the carb bodies when i cleaned them, diaphragms dont like carb cleaner - they went a tiny bit bigger :-/ have gone back to nigh on original shape but felt a smidge weaker so put the ones on from the dead carbs instead, lesson learnt.....
put all the hrc kit in the new ones ( got rid of any traces of carb cleaner ! ) and plonked them on the bike - before tightening up the clamps i pressed a bit on them to make sure they didnt rock about like the old ones did- they didnt , promising i thought ....
put my make shift funnel on to hold fuel in for a few mins of running and fired her up ( clamps tightend ) started up well and no funny lumpy idle like it used to - YAY!!!!
just to confirm success i sprayed my ultra 2040 over the front bank - no revs pickup , SUCCESS AT LAST
now happy than piggies in sh1t i can continue getting her ready for the ring in two weeks. Will whip carbs back off now and set all pilot air screws up and give them a balance now i know they aint drawing in excess air ...
thanks all for their ten cents on this topic peeps
