Exhaust Seal?
Number one problem on my bike has been a blowing exhaust since I've owned it. The rear manifold had cracked or something, gave it to an ex race mechanic (his lad raced NC30's for years) and he sorted it - was a lot better. After that several cracks since developed in my stainless steel pipes (apparently I have a half yamamoto system or something) where the pipes go from 2-to-1. I had them off the bike (what a FUCKER of a job) and got them all welded. Had another slight crack appear but had that filled with weld too.
Now the last problem is there's a lot of clicking that appears to be coming from where the pipe meets the end can. There's no rubber seal or anything, I just shove the can on and bolt the clip as tight as it will go - but no matter how hard I tighten it the clicking persists. Is there meant to be some sort of seal or gasket-y type thing there? I tried using a bit of gun gum but that didn't have any effect. It's driving me mad now as every time I ride it all I hear is the clicking >:(

Re: Exhaust Seal?
Was thinking of wadding up a load of high heat electrical tape around the link pipe then sliding the can over that - what you reckon?
Ideally I could do with a spare can to see if it is the can causing the problem, but I'm not spending £50 on the bay for something that might not be right.

Re: Exhaust Seal?
Get yourself some common all garden silicone mastic, the same as UPVC window fitters use,
you can get it in your local £1 shop, clean inside the can and outside the link pipe,
smear some silikone on the like pipe ease the can on,mount the can to the hanger But DONT tighten the clamp on the can, allow it to dry then tighten, job done.

Clear silicon...
My exhaust is one of those half ethos systems with springs everywhere, used clear silicon all over it.
To remove the exhaust later, you'll have to twist it.....
Don't put on too much.
edit :: Don't use hylomar blue...... it's fantastic stuff, but not for that......

Re: Exhaust Seal?
Just pulled the can back about 3cm and smeared silicon all over it, put the can back on but not tightened it yet. Says it hardens in 10 minutes but can take 24hrs to form a proper seal, annoying as I was planning on using it in half an hour haha.

Re: Exhaust Seal?
right if you running a half yamamoto be aware they are stainless hence why they do crack and split. welding does the job but often another appears soon enough.
they also sound "blowy" anyway so dont get too worried about the raspy sound.
once the pipes hot then tighten the clamp, not when its cold to ensure a tight seal
