NC35 shock upgrade for race on a budget?

Post by andrelopes » Sat May 14, 2011 1:27 am

Hi there,

I'm a recent member to 400GB, though I've been sucking in from all the knowledge and friendly advice on here for a while now. I've got a mostly standard NC35, recently imported from the UK, now getting setup for race/trackdays.

I have spend a good few hours working through the forum and found that the CBR600RR shock is a relatively easy fit on the NC35, with a little sub-frame modification and battery relocating.

My pick is so far CBR600RR 03~06 as I believe they are all the same shock or roughly identical, and as used ones are easily available (aka - cheap :peace: ).

Now for what I would need some expert advice:
Is there's a "golden pick" year within the CBR600RR range? (meaning, 06 better than 03 maybe, for reasons other than having seen less winters?)
Or a different model, other than the RS250 which is really rare around my parts - Portugal?

Any help is much appreciated! :P
Cheers,
André

I gave up on fighting the forum search feature  , but did eventually locate a thread with the elements I needed. ;)
For anyone else interested in cost-effective shock upgrade for their NC30 or NC35, here it is:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=23836

So for me, CBR 600 RR 06 it is then, for the smaller reservoir and minimal modding necessary to get it in. The ride height increase is welcome as it is generally one of the tweaks to improve turn-in.

Anyways, cheers mates, I'll read further next time, poor search skills got the best of me for the last time I say! :P

Something worth noting with the CBR RR shock is that your need the smaller of the 2 batterys available for the NC

Cheers DM, I thought the larger one could just be moved up slightly. I wasn't overly worried about the battery yet as I need a new one anyways, so will check what works best after the CBR shock is installed. I'm going to run total loss, so now you got me worried that I'll be short of room for a decent capacity battery... :?
I've seen elsewhere you're going to use a sexy Durbahn power brick - I'm not sure a lightweight option within those lines will fit me for total loss - trackday use...

I'll be searching on that further, would be super to get anyone running total loss to share their experience of battery duration. :peace:

You might get the bigger battery to fit with a race seat unit, ie with just a seat pad and not the standard seat but with a standard seat it wont fit theres not enough room. To be honest ive never tried the smaller battery but i reckon it'll fit.

A big battery should last a full trackday but i always just use to put mine on a trickle charger between seesions. Not sure how the durbahn battery will stand up to total loss but you'd need to charge it somehow and that means a expensive charger if your not using a genni. Fit a Gixxer genni aswell and have the best of both worlds  Its a massive expense but works really well.
