NC30 fork springs/upgraded springs! Ride hight!

Post by Moore » Sun May 08, 2011 11:11 pm

Hi, abit of advice needed please :?
I have not long finished my nc30 project/rebuild.. I thought the last job to be done would be the dyno centre, but when i got the bike back home " via transit van" i noticed the right hand seal had give up. So a few nights back i replaced the fork seals and oil (until now i thought the job went fine) as i had used the haynes manual (for correct oil level) and had a friend there to help.. Today i have been looking into how to set up the rebound and dampening to suit my weight "9 half stone" and how ever much inc Boots/pants/jacket/gloves.
BUT.. A WORRIED BUT,
After filtering through a few threads tonight on here, I now think my forks have previously had the upgraded springs and spacers fitted,, i remember my spacers being short aluminium ones like i am seeing and reading about now :o (i never measured the springs to confirm my own questions)
So if this is the case,
How much oil should have been used (I used the 390ml) per leg.
Can i sort this problem without taking forks/wheel/calipers back off?
I had already hoped to buy an upgrade kit for my bike within the next few months, so i was relying on old oil and seals holding out until i could atleast test ride the bike (looked to work ok durring the project) but that never happened, so replaced oil and seals, I was really pleased, Im almost ready to Rock n Roll...

Please help?

Next, bike has RVF 17" rear wheel, I have installed a brand new Hagon rear shock, unsure what the ride hight should now be.. or wether i have/need to change the lower linkage bar! im a short arse at 5ft 6", but i obviously want the bike to handle as it should, any advise to help set my suspension will be valued?

will try ad pics, many thanks, sorry for long winded text!

you may already have uprated springs if you noticed spring coils were wound same top to bottom whilst the standard springs are wound narower at one end also if the spacers are alloy and about 30mm in length are slightly shorter than the steel standard spacers to compensate for the marginaly longer uprated springs :?:

the oil level should be ok providing both legs are the same its always best to measure the airgap when filling forks with oil to get both legs evenly matched but if your happy with your oil measuring see no reason for any further work on the forks bar getting the spring preload/sag set and the rebound if the later forks to suit you.

i have a hagon on one of my 30s and from memory its slightly longer not by much pos 5mm aprox more than the standard nc shock never measured it eye to eye but remember it was longer side by side to the old shocknot enough to make a noticable increase in the ride height alone. did you fit the 17 rear or was it already on the bike then chances are it already has a modded or an rvf dogbone fitted :?:
