NC29 weaknesses

Post by trademe900 » Mon Mar 28, 2011 1:35 am

Hi there, had a nc29 for a very brief period of time and the fuel pump failed (my fault due to running it out of fuel).

What weaknesses are there with these bikes if any? I am especially interested to hear about engine and gearbox.

I am used to NC30s so only had a few minor electrical problems.

Regulators. Also, regulators.

In terms of engines, sometimes the starter clutches get rattley / fail, but it's relatively rare and only really found on high-mileage bikes. The alternators can fail when the regulators give out. If the miles are high and the oil hasn't been kept topped up, you will find notched clutch baskets (as on any bike really). Clutch is the same as CBR600F1 (85bhp) so plenty strong enough.

Did I mention the regulators are weak? ;)

Anyone else?

I think I am on NC29 number 6 now and the only thing really that I can say I have come across that seems to be common in reg/rect and 2nd and 6th gear can be dodgy due to worn dogs.

I see. 2nd and 6th gear? Is it common on higher mileage bikes? How does it happen?

I'm looking at a bike with 65,000km on the clock.

The only way to check it is to ride it, if under hard acceleration it feels like you get a little surge, almost like it jumps a tooth on the sprocket then it's knackered.
