Hey!

Sorry for the late reply, i've been busy at work.

Wiring them up is EASY on an NC30 / NC35 as it uses a wasted spark too (2 coils)

This is good becuase stick coils are low reistance, so you have to wire them together to get the same resistance.

Your NC3x will have 2 coils

[Coil 1] --- [Coil 2]

Each coil has two spades feeding it.

So

[Coil 1 Spade 1]------>[S1(1)]--[S1(2)]<---------->[S2(1)]--[S2(2)]-------->[Coil 1 Spade 2]

So you've made a loop :-)

Then put these two stick coils where the original coil plugs went to, it doesn't matter which plug coil goes to where.

Hi neo cheers for that, i think even i can follow that simple explanation. My coils probably wont be here till next week now so i'll wait till ive got them in front of me and hopefully it should make sense.

Neo's wired them same as ive got them on the Suzi, this will give a very similar resistance to that of the OE coil but it is true that you will have 6V across each coil, tho i do not know what the sticks run at on the CBR6.

Hi, thought i was right, makes the coils into a simple potential divider. i wasnt saying it wont work, i just been picky, in a maths stylee. you wont just get more energy across the plug. And as neo says NC30/35 use waisted spark like an il4, so can be wired the same, i still think a proper lower resistance coil would be better, to increase spark enegry, but it i dont know if you theres any available. I think taylor used to make some but are mega money off memory.
I would think the CBR( and most other performance bikes) uses a speparate power transistor for each plug (and puts 12volts across each one) so each cylinder can have its own ignition map, but as NC30/35 are a bit old these days they fire two cylinders at once. You wont burn the sticks out if you wire them in parralell, but you'll fry the cdi unit, if they are only 1.5 ohms each and paralleled together would be 0.75 ohms which would be 4 times the current switched by the cdi unit

A lower resistance coil increases current through the coil and generates a stronger magnetic field, which collapses when current is switched off induces a stronger magnetic field in the secondary field and generates a stronger spark. Basic physics, energy in = energy out. Cars have been using very low primary resistance coils for years using tci ignition.
And as you said the power transistors in the ignition unit wouldnt cope with a much more current than a standard coil, so wiring the sticks in series is the only way to do it. I'd still like to try a slightly lower resistance coil to see if it improves anything. But if its not broke why fix it?
Nothing wrong with my post i can see anyway.
I deisgned a ignitor box myself using PIC chips, but time, money and a lack of motivation have stoped me bothering building it, and Rick already has one with well developed maps. But it would be fun to be able to have separate maps for front and back cylinders. Just imagine how much dyno time and money it would cost to try out tho!

Ok i think i got it, those red and green blocks are the 2 wires where the original coil pack connects to yes? and does it matter which way round you connect them? i think 1 wire is black/white and the other is blue/yellow.

To be honest i think you've already answered my questions but i need this in idiot proof instructions, i cant afford a new ignition system should i fry it :oops:

yes thats right. polarity won't matter either ( which way around they go)

I just noticed that red / green are the kawasaki colours to the coils not the Honda ones.. my bad
