NC21 - CDI wiring?

Post by Chrissy_J » Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:52 am

Hi folks, just a quick question for any 'sparkies' in the house...?

As part of the rebuilding and customising of my NC21, I've rewired my bike from scratch, mainly 'cos the original loom was fit for scrap, and it's now somewhat unusual... I'm not running lights at the moment 'cos the bike's just a toy, but I'll have the option of fitting them at a later date.

Anyway, I'm almost finished, except for a couple of wires on the CDI... when I stripped the loom I made a note of the wires and plugs.

*Red 4 pin plug goes to the pulse generator coils. That's the input to the CDI and that's fine.
*Black 2 pin plug goes to the engine. I don't know what they do, but that connexion's fine.
*A yellow and green flylead goes to the tacho. That's fine too.

*Red 6 pin plug goes to the ignition coils. Four wires go to energise the coils, but there's two wires left- green, and black/white.

Now I reckon the green wire is for earth, but what does the black/white one do?

Does a CDI need a 12v supply, or does it get power via the pulse generator coils?

I daren't experiment with this, I've already killed a reg/rec through getting the wiring wrong, and CDI's aren't cheap!

Just had a thought. Does the black/white wire go to a kill switch? I haven't got one of those!

It requires 12v supply from the battery.

It uses Transistors (TCI) as opposed to Capacitors (CDI) too.
