NC23 Carbs flooding but is it the Carbs at fault

Post by c7ll » Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:11 am

Odd problem this. I can get say 200 miles of trouble free rides and then for no reason (normally in traffic!) the carbs start to flood, the idle goes all over the shot and fuel is chucked out of the carb overflow pipes.

Seems to be no pattern to why or when this happens.

This is the second set of carbs and still the same problem, If it's not the float levels (which I would imagine would result in the problem happening all the time) could it be the fuel pump supplying too much fuel?

As the NC23 has no vacumn pipe i'm guessing the pump relies on back pressure to govern the supply of fuel, could it be the pump is at fault and is supplying too much fuel? I have also noticed the fuel pipe between the tank and the pump is very long, not sure if this could have an affect?

Any ideas welcome as i'm fed up stinking of petrol!!

Cheers,

C

Sounds like the floats are maybe becoming stuck. Could be dirt or grime, or possibly even the little pin that holds them is bent.

Gonna check the float levels but i'm pretty sure these have been done. Will also check to see if they are sticking open.

Does anyone know how the fuel pump and relay operate?. It seems odd that it's overflowing fuel but also starts to run rough at the same time almost as if one cylinder has stopped receiving fuel.
